Kōsen (幸扇) - Natsume - Ξύλινο, ιαπωνικό βερνίκι, μακιέ με χρυσή σκόνη - Spring Grass Maki-e

Name: Japanese Wooden Maki-e (蒔絵) Ōnatsume (大棗) – Shikishi Shunsō (色紙春草) with Original Tomobako (共箱) Artist: Kōsen (幸扇) Size: Height approx. 7.2 cm × Max. Diameter approx. 7.2 cm (2.8 × 2.8 in) Weight: 66.4 g (excluding tomobako) Tomobako (Wooden Box) Size: Height 10.7 cm × Width 8.9 cm (4.2 × 3.5 in) Material: Wooden core, Japanese lacquer, maki-e Age: Late Shōwa to Early Heisei period, Japan (c. 1970–1990) This is a classic wooden maki-e ōnatsume used in the Japanese tea ceremony, complete with its original paulownia wood tomobako (storage box) and storage cloth. Natsume (棗) is a traditional tea caddy for holding matcha powder, named for its small, rounded shape resembling a jujube fruit. This piece is crafted using traditional multi-layered lacquer coating techniques. Gold and silver powder are used to depict shikishi (色紙) patterns (imitating waka poem paper) on the lacquer surface. The shikishi panels feature seasonal flowers and grasses: orchid, plum blossom, wisteria leaves, and autumn grasses, with a theme of spring grass. The background is surrounded by fluid gold ryūsui maki-e (流水蒔絵,flowing water maki-e), creating an elegant literati atmosphere. The original paulownia tomobako bears ink inscriptions: Right: Shikishi Shunsō Maki-e Ōnatsume (色紙春草蒔絵 大棗), indicating the technique and shape; Left: Kōsen (幸扇), the artist’s name, with a square seal stamped below. The storage cloth is beige cotton-linen, a traditional fukusa used to wrap tea utensils, serving both protective and ceremonial purposes. Due to age, the natsume and tomobako show minor natural oxidation. However, the lacquer surface is intact, with no noticeable scratches, no cracks, and no lacquer loss. The overall condition is excellent. Due to the conflict, Taiwan Post EMS has suspended parcel delivery to the following countries starting March 10, 2026: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Israel, Pakistan, Maldives, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Greece, Egypt, Morocco. Bidders from these countries are kindly requested not to bid at this time. Note: Delivery to Italy takes approximately 6–7 days. Customs or the courier may contact you for customs clearance. Kindly reply promptly, as delays may result in the package being returned.
