This piece is crafted using traditional multi-layered lacquer coating techniques. Gold and silver powder are used to depict shikishi (色紙) patterns (imitating waka poem paper) on the lacquer surface. The shikishi panels feature seasonal flowers and grasses: orchid, plum blossom, wisteria leaves, and autumn grasses, with a theme of spring grass. The background is surrounded by fluid gold ryūsui maki-e (流水蒔絵，flowing water maki-e), creating an elegant literati atmosphere. The original paulownia tomobako bears ink inscriptions: Right: Shikishi Shunsō Maki-e Ōnatsume (色紙春草蒔絵 大棗), indicating the technique and shape; Left: Kōsen (幸扇), the artist’s name, with a square seal stamped below.
