2 Εκθαμβωτικές κούκλες μπαμπού Echizen - "Ανιδιοτελές Παιδί" & "Πριγκίπισσα Καγιούγια" - Ξύλο - Ιαπωνία - Shōwa period (1926-1989)

Item Description: This lot features a refined set of two vintage Echizen Take Ningyo (Echizen Bamboo Dolls), a traditional Japanese craft celebrated for its delicate artistry using natural bamboo. Small - "Selfless Child" (無我童子 - Mugadouji) by Tadashi: A charming depiction of a young boy characterized by a serene and innocent expression, representing the Buddhist concept of "Muga" (selflessness/non-self). The doll showcases precise cutting and layered bamboo construction to create the roundness of the face and the texture of the hair. This piece was purchased at the scenic Amanohashidate in November 1989. Artist's signature is on the base. Large - "Princess Kaguya" (かぐや姫 - Kaguya-hime) by Yoshimi: An elegant representation of Princess Kaguya, the ethereal heroine from Japan's oldest folklore, "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter." The graceful silhouette, detailed layered kimono, and elegant hairstyle are all meticulously crafted from bamboo. The natural wood base completes this artistic piece. Purchased at Echizen Bamboo Doll Village in April 1990. Artist's signature is on the base. Both dolls are in good vintage condition. Please handle with extreme care as these delicate structures can be fragile. Refer to the photos for a detailed look at the intricate craftsmanship. Brand / Artist: Echizen Take Ningyo (越前竹人形): A unique art form from Fukui Prefecture, Japan. Artisans skillfully use various parts of bamboo—the stalk, the root, and delicate slivers—to create dolls that range from rustic to incredibly refined. The craft gained nationwide fame in the mid-20th century. Tadashi (忠) and Yoshimi (義美) are skilled craftsmen of this tradition, and both pieces include their signed/sealed bases.
