Description:
This tea caddy features the Byakudannuri technique. Byakudannuri involves applying layers of translucent lacquer (Suki-urushi) over silver foil or Maki-e, causing the underlying patterns to appear in an amber hue. The black maple leaf patterns are executed using the Taka Maki-e technique on top of the translucent lacquer to create a raised texture.
Artist Profile:
A Kaga Maki-e artist active for 60 years. Produces works primarily centered on tea ceremony utensils.
