This is early 20th Jacquard, damask linen table linen at a exceptional length of 2m80. This length would have been especially commissioned as these dimensions in the early 20th Century were not available over the counter. These table linen with red borders and often Arabesque and floral design were immensely popular and go back to the 1870's when the concept was originally created. In the late 20's it lost its popularity and other design came on the market, but none made it. The linen was put back into the large armoires and of recent date have made en enormous resurgence with a younger French generation ,who never knew these linen. They look particularly 'handsome' in the French country kitchen and blend in perfectly. The vibrant red border edging has garlands of what looks like a fuchsia flower with pointed anthurium leaves. The top has a rectangular piece of almost 2meters by 0.60cm. again in garlands. In the centre are 2 sets of initials M.M. The white background at the top has scatterings of large single Fuchsias. As it is a Jacquard weave the table linen can also be used reverse and see the last photo for the colour effect. PLEASE NOTE: The napkins were sold in a previous auction.
