An interesting medium-sized six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) depicting a tranquil pine forest along meandering rivers. A serene composition unfolds across the panels, showing clusters of large, slanting pine trees 松 (matsu) lining gently undulating shorelines. Fishing boats are moored along the banks, while a flight of chidori 千鳥 (plovers) sweeps gracefully across the sky. The scene is enveloped by dense gold leaf clouds, creating a calm and atmospheric landscape. Executed in colour and ink on mulberry paper with gold leaf. The painting is bordered by a slender ecru inner band and a broader grey-blue outer band. Set within a black lacquered wooden frame fitted with protective gilded metal hardware. The folding screen is well suited for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art, but can also be placed as a standalone piece.
