Description:
This work depicts a calm time of day as the sun sets. It captures a nostalgic and peaceful landscape, expressing the silence of the end of the day through the contrast of light and shadow.
Artist Profile:
Born in Manchuria in 1945. Moved to Kyoto City in 1960. Started woodblock printmaking in 1972. Selected for the Japan Print Association Exhibition and the Nichido Print Grand Prix in 1973. In 1983, participated in the "Three Artists of Kyoto Landscapes" exhibition with Tokuriki Tomikichiro and Clifton Karhu. Held a solo exhibition in Chicago and was a specially invited artist for the Graz Art Association in Austria in 1990. Designed the original drawings for the "Kyoto Events" series of Furusato stamps for the Japan Post in 2003. Works are in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2004) and the Library of Congress (2006). Passed away in 2016.
