Popy - Παιχνίδι ρομπότ Gurentesa and Baron Maher - 1970-1980 - Ιαπωνία
These are two classic Chogokin robot toys from the 1970s Showa era in Japan. Both are from the original Chogokin series of Popy, the predecessor brand of Bandai, and are iconic products of the golden age of Japanese robot toys.
Left: UFO Robot Grendais (グレンダイザー)
Original IP: Go Nagai's classic mecha anime "UFO Robot Grendais" (aired in 1975), which enjoyed immense popularity worldwide, especially in Europe.
Brand/Model: Popy's original Chogokin series, commonly numbered GA-37, a mainstay in the Japanese children's market at the time.
Size Reference: Approximately 10-13.5cm in height, 5-6cm in width, and 4-5cm in depth.
Material: Die-cast zinc alloy (main frame) + ABS plastic (outer armor/details), with plastic joints, balancing impact resistance and accurate modeling.
Features: Recreates the iconic yellow horn ornaments and red and black color scheme from the anime, with the original logo printed on the abdomen, making it one of the most representative merchandise items in the Mazinger series.
Right Side: Super Robot Baron Mach (マッハバロン, translated as "Hundred Transformations Dragon" in China)
Original IP: The tokusatsu drama "Super Robot Baron Mach," which aired in 1974, featuring "spring joints" and articulation as its core characteristics.
Brand/Model: Popy's original Chogokin, with a later reissue version, THE Chogokin GT-04, released by Bandai in 2003.
Size Reference: Approximately 9-10cm in height, 5-6cm in width, and 4-5cm in depth.
Material: Die-cast zinc alloy (body/joint springs) + ABS plastic (outer armor/belt/hands), with spring joints being its signature design.
Features: Recreating the red main body, silver spring joints, and "MB"-printed belt from the anime, this is a classic example of combining tokusatsu IP with Chaogoku Soul craftsmanship.
Additional Notes: Both items are vintage collectibles. The combination of "alloy + plastic" creates a weight and durability rarely seen at the time, laying the foundation for the design language of Bandai's subsequent Chaogoku Soul series.
