Bloody Ukiyo-e (血絵) - Shuntei 春亭 - Ιαπωνία - Η τελευταία φάση της περιόδου Εντό. (χωρίς τιμή ασφαλείας)

Work Title: Bloody Ukiyo-e (血絵) Artist: Shuntei (春亭) Craft Type: Woodblock Print The print bears the artist's signature and seal Paper Size: 21 × 27 cm (8.27 × 10.63 in) Paper Material: Washi (和纸) This ukiyo-e woodblock print was created by Utagawa Shuntei during the late Edo period (19th century, 1789–1868). The scene is charged with dramatic tension: the man on the left, clad in a blue-patterned kimono, has blood on his lips and hands, his expression contorted in agony; the woman in the center lies prone on the ground, her green-based cherry-blossom-patterned kimono paired with a pink obi (腰帯) heavily stained with blood, her posture twisted; the man on the right, wearing a checkered kimono, fixes a sharp gaze, seemingly a spectator or participant in the incident. The background—with broken sliding doors and scattered objects (e.g., porcelain vases)—further amplifies the disarray following the conflict. This type of "chi-e" (血絵) falls under the "zankoku-e" (残酷絵) subcategory of ukiyo-e, characterized by dramatic depictions of violence and death, often drawn from kabuki (歌舞伎) plays or folk revenge tales. Through stark color contrasts (notably the clash between crimson bloodstains and the elegant kimonos) and exaggerated bodily gestures, the work precisely catered to the Edo townsfolk’s taste for sensational and dramatic narratives. The print shows traces of prior mounting. Due to aging, the paper exhibits oxidation-induced yellowing and creases, but its overall condition remains sound. Due to service suspension, Taiwan Post EMS has suspended parcel delivery to the following countries starting March 10, 2026: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Israel, Pakistan, Maldives, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Greece, Egypt, Morocco. Bidders from these countries are kindly requested not to bid at this time. Note: Delivery to Italy takes approximately 6–7 days. Customs or the courier may contact you for customs clearance. Kindly reply promptly, as delays may result in the package being returned.
