This artwork depicts a woman in a kimono. The patterns on the kimono include plants sprouting from the snow, butterflies, and clematis, representing a scene from early spring. The artist focused on the expression of beautiful women in kimono, often without background elements to emphasize the figure. Meisho refers to dressing beautifully or applying glamorous makeup.
Artist Profile:
Born in 1912 in Nagano Prefecture. Studied under the master of Bijin-ga (paintings of beautiful women), Ito Shinsui. Established a style that inherited the elegance of traditional Bijin-ga. Died in 2007.
