Original Bulgarian WWI Commemorative Medal with Named Document to a German Recipient (1915–1918)
A rare and historically significant Bulgarian award group consisting of the Commemorative Medal for the Great War (1915–1918) together with its original named award certificate, issued by the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
The certificate is officially issued by the Ministry of War and features the royal coat of arms, period typography, and authentic signatures. It is awarded to Friedrich Hoenemann (reading of the surname may slightly vary due to period handwriting), clearly indicating that the recipient was of German origin — a notable detail reflecting the close military alliance between Bulgaria and Germany during World War I.
The document confirms participation in the war of 1915–1918 and is dated Sofia, September 1941.
The medal remains mounted on its original triangular ribbon in Bulgarian national colors (red with white and green stripes). The reverse bears the inscription “1915–1918” within a laurel wreath.
