Description:
This is a Kyo-yaki tea bowl decorated with flowers in overglaze enamels and gold. A blue glaze is applied to a portion of the body, followed by floral paintings. The design includes a sheep, indicating it was produced for the Year of the Goat in the zodiac calendar.
Artist Profile:
Kato Tozan established the Tozan Kiln in Gifu Prefecture. He researches and produces Kyo-yaki works in the Kenzan-utsushi and Ninsei-utsushi styles. His works are used by tea ceremony practitioners.
