Heart-shaped perforations add detail, combining practicality and decoration. Of particular note is the clear inscription on the lantern—"September of the ninth year of Tenpo" (1838)—accompanied by a name/patron's inscription, providing a clear historical date and cultural context, making it a valuable historical artifact. The lantern also features a small, operable door for holding candles, making it a complete functional item and a typical example of traditional lighting.
