Wine bought directly from the racks of the old winery of Bodegas Riojanas in 2012. Stored in private cellar up to today. Wine never released to the market. Aged for 12 years in cask, this exceptionally rare limited edition was produced to commemorate the winery’s centenary in 1990. The bottles were reserved exclusively for loyal customers and corporate commitments. Each bottle was presented in a wooden case and wrapped in the original historic white paper of Bodegas Riojanas. Under current regulations, this wine would be classified as Gran Reserva by the Rioja Regulatory Board. Originally, the wine was intended to be bottled as part of the regular 1983 Reserva. During the early years of crianza, the finest casks were selected through tasting and set aside from the main lot. These barrels were then aged for an extended period and ultimately bottled in 1990 to mark the first centenary of Bodegas Riojanas, founded in 1890. Vinified and matured in wooden vats for 12 to 18 months, following 19th-century winemaking practices, the wine was then transferred to cask. During its first six years of ageing, it was racked once every six months using the traditional Rioja cask-to-cask method.
