Item Description
This elegant water pot (mizusashi) is a masterpiece of Arita porcelain crafted by 香蘭社 Koransha, one of Japan's most prestigious ceramic houses. Adorned in the classic sometsuke-tomeshiro hanamon technique — a refined method in which cobalt-blue underglaze decoration is applied in harmony with deliberately reserved white areas — the design creates a stunning dynamic contrast of deep indigo and pristine white porcelain.
The body is gracefully shaped with a gently swelling belly that narrows toward the neck, giving the piece a flowing, elegant silhouette. Across its entire surface, large chrysanthemum blossoms (kiku) in deep cobalt are interwoven with arabesque scrollwork (karakusa) and delicately detailed leaves, rendered with extraordinary precision. A small circular knob atop the lid completes the composition with understated refinement.
The base bears Koransha's distinctive orchid mark (ran-no-hana) in cobalt blue, confirming its authentic provenance. The piece comes with its original wooden storage box (tomobako), inscribed with red seals.
This water pot exemplifies the timeless tradition of Arita blue-and-white porcelain, combining centuries-old decorative vocabulary with Koransha's signature technical excellence — a collector's piece of exceptional quality and visual impact.

Artist Profile
Koransha (香蘭社) is one of Japan's foremost porcelain manufacturers, rooted in the historic Arita ware tradition of Saga Prefecture, Kyushu. Founded in 1879 by Eizaemon Fukagawa VIII, Koransha was among the pioneering companies to promote Arita porcelain on the world stage, earning numerous gold medals at international expositions from the Meiji era onward. In 1896, the company was granted the distinguished honor of appointment as purveyor to the Imperial Household, a recognition that cemented its reputation as Japan's foremost producer of fine ceramics. Koransha is celebrated for its mastery of sometsuke (cobalt blue underglaze) decoration, the elegant clarity of its white porcelain body, and its faithful preservation of classical Meiji-era design vocabulary combined with superb craftsmanship passed down through generations of master artisans.
