A Chinese Terracotta Court Lady Figure, Tang Dynasty, 7th to 10th Century A.D. Elegant terracotta figurine of a Court Lady measuring approximately 26 cm in height. The figure stands gracefully with delicate facial features, red pigment on the lips and cheeks, and a very elaborate high hairstyle typical of the Tang period. She wears a long flowing robe with traces of original polychrome pigment (red, yellow and white) still visible. The piece has a beautiful aged patina. Figurines of court ladies were extremely popular during the Tang Dynasty, symbolizing beauty, fashion and the refined culture of the imperial court. They were commonly placed in tombs as companions for the afterlife or used as decorative objects.
