About this Lens:
Released in December 1988 — the year after the introduction of the Canon EOS / EF mount system — the Canon EF 100-200mm f/4.5 A is one of the rarely-seen "A" series lenses produced by Canon. The "A" suffix indicates that this is a fully Automatic-focusing lens designed for photographers who do not require manual focusing capability; the manual focus ring is intentionally minimized to keep the design simple, affordable, and AF-optimized. Only a handful of Canon EF lenses ever bore the "A" designation (the EF 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 A and a couple of others), making this a relatively uncommon piece in any EF system collection.

Optically, the lens uses a 10-element / 7-group design with an 8-blade aperture, covering the three most commonly-used telephoto focal lengths — 100 mm, 135 mm, and 200 mm — within a single, compact, lightweight body of just 520 g and 58 mm filter thread. The trombone-style push-pull zoom is the only major control, allowing rapid and accurate framing for sports, events, and outdoor photography. Because of its simple construction, modest maximum aperture, and short zoom ratio, aberration variation across the zoom range is held to a low level, and a flare-stop is incorporated into the relay lens group to suppress flare and ghosting.

Autofocus is driven by Canon's Arc-Form Drive (AFD) motor — the original micro-motor system used on early EF lenses before USM became standard.

Mount: Canon EF. Compatible with all Canon EOS film and digital SLR bodies, and adaptable to Canon EOS-R / RF mount mirrorless cameras via the Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapter.

Pre-owned with distinct signs of use. The lens is fully functional and cosmetically very clean, with slight internal haze as noted below.

The zoom mechanism (trombone push-pull) operates smoothly.
The aperture blades are clean and the diaphragm responds properly.
Electronic contacts on the mount are clean.
