First Edition Thus. Part of a series of Walter Crane's picture books. (The large format series). Re-issue. Blue stiff card covers, with red and black decoration. Reinforced subtly to the spine and with new stitching. End papers and ten leaves, comprising six pages of text and five full colour chromolithographic illustrations on six pages (one double page) printed to one side only. Illustrated end papers.
Covers are mainly clean and tidy, with a touch of marking to the front cover. Internally clean, but fractionally darkened. A couple of neat repairs to the plates. Overall a nice copy.
Princess Belle-Etoile is a classic French fairy tale of the 18th century. It was reprinted here with illustrations by Walter Crane, whose woodcut designs were influenced by Japanese colour prints.
