Εξαιρετική συλλογή δύο ασημένιων αντικειμένων αντίκες από την περιοχή των Ιμαλαΐων - Ασημί - Νεπάλ - τέλη του 19ου και του 20ού αιώνα
Fine collection of two antique silver objects from the Himalayan region, offered together as a single lot. Combined silver weight 362g — current spot metal value alone approx. €850.
LOT 1 — Nepalese Silver Repoussé Offering Bowl
Nepal, Kathmandu Valley, late 19th – early 20th century
Compressed spherical form, entirely hand-worked in repoussé against a finely chiselled ground, characteristic of Newar silversmithing traditions from the Kathmandu Valley.
Decoration: Continuous narrative frieze across two registers depicting figural scenes — possibly processional or ceremonial subjects from Hindu-Buddhist Himalayan iconography. The style and composition differ from the classic Burmese thabeik tradition, aligning more closely with Nepalese metalworking practices.
Upper rim: Beaded boss border with corded fillet
Lower border: Scrolling geometric and foliate band
Base: Flat hammered silver with applied decorative border. No inscription, no hallmarks — consistent with pieces made for native Himalayan clientele
Material: Solid silver, approx. 900/1000 standard
Dimensions: Diameter 13 cm / Height 7 cm / Weight 292g
Condition: Good antique condition, natural aged patina, wear consistent with age and use, no cracks, no repairs
LOT 2 — Tibetan Silver Tea Cup Lid
Tibet, 19th – early 20th century
Domed lid from a traditional Tibetan tea cup (dhakya or gaiwan ), originally part of a tea service used for butter tea or sweet tea in monastic or domestic contexts. The piece combines Tibetan ritual metalworking traditions with functional design.
Decoration: Everted rim with engraved or repoussé border; the domed form is characteristic of Tibetan tea vessel covers, often surmounted by a finial (now absent or simplified). The surface shows hammered and chased work typical of Tibetan silversmithing.
Material: Solid silver
Dimensions: 12 cm diameter / Weight 70g
Condition: Good antique condition, natural patina, minor surface wear consistent with age
Combined specifications
Total silver weight: 362g
Both pieces acquired as Himalayan art. No hallmarks on either piece — consistent with traditional silverware from Nepal and Tibet of this period, where hallmarking was not practiced for pieces intended for local use.
Provenance note: The bowl was previously catalogued as Burmese; expert examination confirms a Nepalese attribution. The lid is identified as the original cover from a Tibetan tea cup, not a standalone ritual vessel.
