Tsurukubi (Crane-Neck) Vase, Kyoto Kiyomizu Ware A refined single-flower vase (hanaire) in the tsurukubi — "crane's neck" — form, produced by Tachikichi, one of Kyoto's most prestigious ceramics houses with a history stretching back to 1752. The elongated, gently tapering neck rises gracefully from a rounded shoulder, evoking the elegant poise of a crane in repose — a form deeply rooted in the Japanese aesthetic tradition of wabi-cha and the tea ceremony. The surface is dressed in oribe glaze, the iconic deep copper-green associated with Mino ware and the Momoyama period tea master Furuta Oribe. The glaze pools and flows with characteristic unpredictability, creating rich tonal variation from dark forest green to lighter jade — no two pieces are identical. At 24.5 cm in height, the vase has a quiet commanding presence: tall enough to display a single stem of cut flower or a slender branch to full effect, yet restrained enough for a tokonoma alcove, a writing desk, or a modern interior shelf. Size Height: 24.5 cm Width (diameter): 11 cm Weight: 435 g (vase), 970 g (vase and tomobako) Include Signed wooden storage box (tomobako) with the maker's handwritten inscription and personal seal. Condition In excellent condition. No cracks, chips, or repairs. Glaze variations are entirely natural and characteristic of the oribe firing technique. Artist Profile Tachikichi (橘吉 / たち吉) was founded in 1752 in Kyoto's Shijo district under the name Tachibana-ya Kichibei — a ceramics merchant whose family crest featured the tachibana (mandarin orange blossom). In the Meiji era, the eighth-generation proprietor renamed the house "Tachikichi," the name it carries today. Over more than 270 years, Tachikichi has championed the finest Japanese ceramic traditions, working with master kilns across the country — from Kyoto Kiyomizu ware to Arita, Kutani, and beyond — while maintaining its hallmark of refined quality and understated elegance. The brand has been synonymous with the highest standard of Japanese tableware and decorative ceramics, retailing through major department stores nationwide and internationally, including in Italy. 【Shipping Notice】 Due to the current situation in the Middle East, shipment from Japan may not be possible to certain regions.
