Each coaster is skilfully formed in the shape of a realistic oak leaf, with finely rendered veins and softly undulating edges that capture the natural appearance of fallen foliage. The surface displays a rich purple-patinated copper finish known as shihan-dō (紫斑銅), producing deep reddish-purple and dark bronze tones that shift subtly depending on the light. The organic colouring and natural irregularities give the set a warm and atmospheric presence reminiscent of autumn leaves. Each piece bears the cast signature “Sadae” (定衛) on the reverse. The original signed wooden box is included, with title inscription, signature, and seal. When discussing Japanese cast metalwork from Sado Island, the celebrated metal artist Homma Takusai often comes to mind. Takusai originally carried the surname Hara, and although it is unclear whether Hara Sadae was directly related to that lineage, the craftsmanship and artistic sensibility show a notably similar character. Oak leaves traditionally symbolise strength, endurance, and longevity in Japanese decorative arts, making this refined set both practical and deeply evocative as seasonal tea utensils. Very good vintage condition with minimal wear and natural patina consistent with age. The wooden box shows some age-related wear and stains. Please refer to the photos for details. H 2.5 cm W 16.8 cm D 9.5 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
