Andre Kertesz - The Polaroids (MINT CONDITION, SHRINK-WRAPPED) - 2007

GREAT PHOTOBOOK by André Kertesz from 2007 - in BRANDNEW CONDITION. "Emotionally and physically exhausted after the loss of Elizabeth, his wife and lifelong companion, André Kertész was admittedly a broken man who had lost his direction. His remarkable recovery began when he was inspired by a small glass bust and he embraced the new Polaroid SX-70." (from the publisher) New, mint, unread; still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher's foil. COLLECTOR'S CONDITION. Welcome to the 1st auction « Masters of French Photobooks » gathered by Anatole Desachy (France) and Ecki Heuser (Germany) at the occasion of the 57th edition of « Rencontres d’Arles » photofestival. From Man Ray & Brassaï avant-garde period of time to Lucien Clergue & Antoine D’Agata who are both linked to this fabulous city, enjoy our impressive selection of photobooks including deluxe, signed & association copies from great photographers ! Accompanies an exhibition at "Southeast Museum of Photography", Daytona Beach, in 2007 and 2008, and companion exhibitions at "Stephen Bulger Gallery, Toronto", at "Stephen Daiter Gallery, Chicago" and at "Silverstein Photography, New York". "In poignant, beautiful, and sometimes haunting photographs, we witness the artist's late life rebirth as Kertész dipped into his reserves one last time, tapping new people, ideas, and tools to generate a whole new body of work. In the process he transformed from a sad old man waiting to die into one who could not wait for the next click of his camera. Taken in his apartment, just north of New York City's Washington Square, many of the photographs were shot either from his window or in the windowsill. His fertile mind at work, Kertész arranged personal objects into striking still lifes set against cityscape backgrounds, reflected and transformed in glass surfaces. Almost entirely unpublished work, these photographs are a testament to the genius of the photographer's eye as manifested in the simple Polaroid." (from the publisher) This is a lot by 5Uhr30.com (Ecki Heuser, Cologne, Germany). 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% protection, 100% insurance and combined shipping worldwide. W. W. Norton, London. 2007. First edition, second printing. Hardcover with dustjacket. 160 x 185 mm. 128 pages. Photos: André Kertesz. Book design and composition: Laura Lindgren. Introduction by Robert Gurbo. Foreweord by Eelco Wolf. Text in English. Wonderful, small photobook by André Kertesz - in perfect condition. "André Kertész's (1894-1985) innovative photographic career began in his native Hungary in 1912. Kertész's early works reveal an innate ability to construct lyrical images infused with wit and insight. He is revered for his images in which everyday events are transformed into poetic visions. In 1925 he moved to Paris, where his approach to the medium helped to define the look and the role of photojournalism and contemporary art in Europe. Kertész left Paris in 1936 for New York but failed to secure a position as a photojournalist and slipped into obscurity. He continued to build on his extraordinary body of work in New York, but it wasn't until the mid-1970s that Kertész was fully recognized as a seminal figure in the history of photography. His career spanned seventy-three years-from a glass plate camera to the Polaroid SX-70. His photographs are in the collection of museums and institutions throughout the world." (from the publisher) "Robert Gurbo is the curator of the Estate of André Kertész and the editor of André Kertész: The Early Years. He is also coauthor of André Kertész, the exhibition catalogue that accompanied the 2005 exhibition at the National Gallery of Art. He lives in New York City." (from the publisher)
