Watch a video of this specimen by following the Vimeo link below: https://vimeo.com/1148940485/f910d7d18f This small cabinet specimen comes from the Ojuela mine in Mapimí, Durango — one of Mexico's most storied mining sites, founded in 1598 along the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro and worked for more than three centuries, with a major revival in the late 19th century under the Compañía Minera de Peñoles. Ojuela's oxidized ore zones have yielded over 140 mineral species, including several type localities, and the mine is world-renowned among collectors for its mimetite — often found in combination with wulfenite, adamite and fluorite. This specimen features yellow mimetite crystal aggregates on another generation of dark mimetite on gossan. This specimen displays excellent contrast and aesthetics.
