Description

A pioneering figure of Japanese contemporary art, Kumi Sugai gained international recognition after relocating to Paris in 1952. He became one of the leading artists of the École de Paris and is celebrated for his bold geometric abstractions, which merge Japanese aesthetics with the visual language of modern urban design.

Artwork Title: Festival

This striking screenprint represents Sugai’s mature artistic period, showcasing the iconic hard-edge geometric style for which he is internationally renowned.

The composition features a powerful arrangement of vivid red, blue, and black geometric forms, creating a dynamic rhythm and visual balance. Its clarity, precision, and vibrant color demonstrate Sugai’s pursuit of a universal visual language that transcends cultural boundaries.
