Elegant secretary with lift-top in Louis XV style, France, late 19th century
Magnificent lift-top secretary in Louis XV style, made with veneered marquetry rich in floral and rocaille decorations. Testimony to the know-how of French cabinetmaking at the end of the 19th century (Napoleon III era / Belle Époque), this exceptional piece sits within the great tradition of the "Louis XV Revival", a movement that reinterpreted with prestige the elegance and lightness of royal salons of the 18th century.
The furniture features a curved and sinuous silhouette, adorned with rich gilded bronze and chased fittings (key entries, pull handles, corner drops and sabot feet on curved legs). It is topped with an elegant marble top with original veining.
The lift-top opens to reveal a refined interior (called the "theater") including several small storage drawers and a writing space lined with leather, offering both functionality and decorative charm. The front and sides are decorated with meticulously executed marquetry in precious woods (walnut burl and rosewood), highlighting scrolling foliate motifs of great delicacy.
A period piece as decorative as practical, ideal for an office, a living room, or a refined bedroom.
