Σίδερο (χυτό / σφυρήλατο) - Σύμβολο μακροζωίας, εορτής και καλής τύχης. Εξαιρετικά ρεαλιστικό διακοσμητικό με αστακό - Shōwa period (1926-1989)

This is a remarkably realistic Japanese lobster (ebi / ise-ebi) sculpture made of cast metal. The piece is unusually large, measuring approximately 48.9 cm in length, and has a substantial weight of 2.39 kg, giving it an impressive presence as a decorative object. The sculpture captures the lobster in a natural crawling posture, with long sweeping antennae, articulated body segments, sharp legs, and a broad fan-shaped tail. The rough texture of the shell and the aged patina create a strong sense of realism and depth. Although unsigned, the work shows careful craftsmanship and a convincing understanding of marine anatomy. The darkened surface and areas of oxidation are consistent with age and add to its antique character. Symbolism of the Lobster In Japan, lobster has long been regarded as an auspicious motif. Its curved body resembles the back of an elderly person, making it a traditional symbol of: Longevity Prosperity Celebration Good fortune For this reason, lobster imagery is frequently used in festive decorations, New Year celebrations, and traditional Japanese art. Artistic Features Large cast-metal marine sculpture Highly realistic lobster form Long curved antennae and detailed legs Textured shell and segmented body Attractive aged patina Strong decorative impact from every angle Suitable for Japanese interiors, restaurants, galleries, and collections Based on the style and surface condition, the sculpture is believed to date from approximately the early to mid Shōwa period (20th century). This impressive lobster sculpture combines naturalistic craftsmanship with traditional Japanese auspicious symbolism, making it an excellent display piece for collectors of Japanese antiques, marine art, folk art, and unusual decorative objects. Large cast-metal lobster sculptures of this scale and realism are encountered only occasionally, and the combination of impressive size, detailed modeling, and auspicious symbolism makes this a particularly memorable piece for collectors and interior display.
