Lagavulin Sweet Peat 11 years old 2025, 43%, 700ml
With its 11-year-old Lagavulin, the legendary Islay distillery created a single malt matured entirely in first-fill ex-bourbon casks made of American oak. Master Blender Dr. Stuart Morrison focused on the combination of sweetness and smoke, which are generally considered opposites. An elegant sweetness shimmers through the wonderfully dense peat smoke and blends with hints of salted caramel and toffee apples. The main difference to the successful Lagavulin 16 and Lagavulin 8-year-old whiskies lies firstly in the 11-year-old Lagavulin's 100% bourbon cask maturation, and secondly in the Sweet Peat's more pronounced malty notes and charming undertones of sweetness and oak. In this case, opposites truly attract. The Islay whisky is bottled at 43% ABV.
Aroma: Sweet and inviting with salty notes, fresh tropical fruits, green bananas, and pink peppercorns.
Taste: Medium-bodied with campfire smoke, oak spice, and honey toast. Hints of toffee apples emerge.
Finish: Long and lingering with peat smoke, dark chocolate, and vanilla toffee.
