Cerâmica Conimbriga - Hand-Painted 17th Century Style Faience Oil Lamp Vessel - Portugal
Description
An exquisite and highly collectible Portuguese faience (tin-glazed earthenware) decorative vessel from the renowned workshop of Cerâmica Conimbriga. Meticulously hand-painted by the artisan Dina, this piece is an authentic, historically accurate revival modeled after classical 17th-century (Sec. XVII) Portuguese museum ceramics.
Design & Historic Significance:
• Form: Elegant ancient Roman-style oil lamp silhouette featuring a flared pedestal foot, matching fitted lid, and a dramatic, high-arching stylized scroll handle.
• Decoration: Hand-painted in rich, traditional cobalt blue on a milky-white glazed background. The intricate surface pattern showcases typical 17th-century Portuguese fauna and flora motifs, featuring a central bird nestled among stylized scrolling vines.
• Markings: Fully hand-signed on the reverse of the base: "200 - Cerâmica Conimbriga - Hand-Painted - Portugal - Sec. XVII - Dina".
Condition Report:
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The glaze maintains a gorgeous gloss and the hand-painted cobalt remains vivid. Free from structural cracks or repairs. Minimal, typical age-related glaze flecks on the base rim entirely consistent with traditional soft-paste earthenware.
A beautiful piece of traditional Iberian pottery heritage, perfect for serious collectors of European faience.
