Introduced in 1968, the Seiko Lord Matic line occupied an important position in the brand’s late-1960s range, combining refined styling with relatively sophisticated automatic movements while remaining positioned below Seiko’s premium King Seiko and Grand Seiko collections. Lord Matic watches are particularly characteristic of the period in which Seiko was rapidly developing thinner automatic calibres and increasingly modern case designs. This early reference 5606-7000 was produced in July 1969 and is powered by the 23-jewel Seiko calibre 5606, a slim automatic movement that also offers manual winding and hacking. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and incorporates a bilingual day-date display, with English and Kanji on this example. The watch has a particularly attractive dark grey to almost black sunburst dial, whose appearance changes considerably depending on the lighting. The dark grey sunburst dial is well preserved and changes from medium charcoal grey to almost black depending on the angle and intensity of the light. The applied hour markers, hands and dial printing present nicely, with minor age-related traces visible upon close inspection. The stainless-steel case retains its characteristic angular Lord Matic design and shows normal signs of previous use, including scratches and surface marks consistent with its age. The new crystal is clear and scratch-free. The watch retains its original stainless-steel bracelet, which is fitted with a later Seiko clasp rather than its original clasp. The bracelet and clasp show normal signs of vintage use. The automatic movement has been serviced and is functioning correctly.
