Κατσαρόλα - .875 (84 Zolotniki) silver - Νιέλλο Στερεό Ασήμι
The village of Kubachi, located in Dagestan, Russia, has been a renowned center for silversmithing for centuries. Craftsmen from Kubachi are famous for their intricate metalwork, particularly their use of niello enamel and gilding on silver. Their distinctive style often incorporates traditional Caucasian motifs and patterns, reflecting a rich cultural heritage.
The 875 silver standard indicates a purity of 87.5% silver, common for Russian silverware. The niello technique involves engraving a design into the silver and then filling the recesses with a black or dark blue paste made from silver sulfide, which creates a striking contrast with the polished silver. The presence of gilding, if confirmed, would add another layer of luxury and artistry to the piece.
This very nice teapot weighing 242g is a very rare piece in excellent condition with a very small dent on the lower base which is barely visible and easy to fix.
