United States One Dollar Silver Certificate, Series of 1899, the well-known “Black Eagle” type, catalogued as Friedberg Fr.234. This example carries the William S. Elliott – John Burke signature combination, blue Treasury seal and serial number M82684291A.

Large-size U.S. paper currency printed on fiber paper. The obverse is dominated by the spread-winged eagle with the U.S. Capitol in the background, positioned above portraits of Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant. The inscriptions “ONE SILVER DOLLAR” and “SILVER CERTIFICATE” are clearly visible, together with the repeated blue serial number and blue Treasury seal. The reverse is printed predominantly in green, with extensive guilloche ornamentation, repeated numeral 1s and “ONE” inscriptions.

The Fr.234 variety is identified by the Elliott–Burke signature combination and belongs to the later production period of the 1899 Silver Certificate series. The serial number with M prefix and A suffix is consistent with this issue. The principal engraving details, portraits, seal, serial numbers and inscriptions remain clearly identifiable.

Heavily circulated condition. The note shows numerous strong vertical and horizontal folds, extensive overall wrinkling and many fine creases, with paper that has become visibly soft from prolonged circulation. General toning and soiling are present, together with scattered brown-red spots, pronounced edge and corner wear, and minor marginal irregularities. Handwritten marks are visible on the obverse, including around the blue Treasury seal area. No major areas of missing paper are visible in the supplied photographs, and the complete printed design remains present and identifiable.
