Scientific name: Ouranosaurus nigeriensis, (Taquet, 1976) - Basal Hadrosauriform - Iguanodontian Location: Gadoufaoua, Téneré Desert, Niger. Geological Formation: Erlhaz Fm Age: Lower Cretaceous, Aptian/Albian stage ( 113 million years) Size: 2cm REF.: #S659 DESCRIPTION: An exceptional authentic tooth of Ouranosaurus nigeriensis, a distinctive herbivorous ornithopod dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous of Niger. The specimen displays remarkably well-preserved enamel, retaining fine surface detail and natural coloration. Particularly noteworthy is the presence of clearly visible feeding wear, an original biological feature produced during the animal’s lifetime and direct evidence of the tooth’s functional use in processing vegetation. Ouranosaurus nigeriensis is principally associated with the Elrhaz Formation of the Gadoufaoua region, Agadez, Niger, dating to the Early Cretaceous, approximately 125–112 million years ago (Aptian–Albian). These deposits preserve one of Africa’s most celebrated Cretaceous vertebrate assemblages. Compared with the abundant isolated teeth of several predatory dinosaurs from North African fossil deposits, well-preserved Ouranosaurus teeth are considerably less commonly encountered on the collector market. The combination of excellent enamel preservation, identifiable morphology and pronounced natural feeding wear makes this an especially attractive specimen, offering both scientific interest and strong display appeal. All of our fossils come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every week, the issued Certificates of Authenticity are updated in our database verification system on our website. If you find that your certificate has not yet been updated, please contact us and we will update it immediately. Display box included.
