The Nikon Nikonos IV-A (1980) belongs to the legendary Nikonos line — the amphibious cameras that defined underwater photography for decades and were carried by scientists, divers and photojournalists alike. Sealed against water to considerable depth without any housing, it is equally at home in rain, surf and dust on land. Offered here with the Nikkor 35mm f/2.5, the standard lens of the system, usable both above and below the surface. Please check the photos for details. Optical Condition Lens / Sensor: Clear — no haze, fungus or scratches. Functional The camera operates — shutter, film transport and the meter all respond. The meter reading varied against our reference (about -2.2 EV at EV12 and +1.5 EV at EV15) — please treat it as a guide and bracket for critical work. Measured Performance We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured: - Light meter accuracy — EV12: 2.2 UNDER / EV15: 1.5 OVER Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself. Known Issues 1. Traces of past water ingress are visible inside the film chamber (see photos). The camera works, but we cannot guarantee it is watertight — please regard it as a land-use or collector's camera unless it is serviced with new O-rings. 2. The meter reading was inconsistent against our reference (about -2.2 EV at EV12, +1.5 EV at EV15) — bracket or use an external meter.
