This is a particularly desirable grade for Imperial Russian silver. AU58 is immediately below Mint State, meaning that the coin retains almost all of its original detail and overall appearance, with only minimal evidence of circulation. The coin shows a strong and well-defined portrait of Nicholas II, clear legends, a detailed Imperial double-headed eagle and attractive silver surfaces. Considerable original mint character remains visible, giving the coin excellent eye appeal for the grade. The 25 Kopecks denomination is considerably less frequently encountered than the common smaller silver denominations, especially in professionally certified high grades. Examples approaching Mint State are particularly attractive for collectors of Imperial Russian coinage. The year 1896 is historically significant as the year of the coronation of Emperor Nicholas II, adding further historical appeal to the coin. Another important advantage is that the coin received a straight numerical NGC grade – AU58, with no Details designation.
