Antique Vieux Paris Porcelain Coffee/Tisane Pot – Gilt Neoclassical Laurel Decoration – Mid-19th Century (c. 1840) An elegant mid-19th-century French Vieux Paris (Old Paris) porcelain server, classically shaped as an elongated coffee pot or pot à tisane (decoction pot). Modeled closely after the prestigious Sèvres shapes of the Empire and Louis Philippe eras, this generous piece was designed to serve a large gathering of 12 guests. The porcelain features an impeccable bright white glaze adorned with premium hand-applied gold leaf decoration. The neck and matching lid are embellished with a refined neoclassical laurel leaf garland representing victory, honor, and longevity. The main body is decorated with a regular, repeating pattern of small gold clusters. In French ceramic arts, this all-over scattered pattern is called a semé (sown pattern). It features stylized three-leaf clovers or trefoils (trèfles), which symbolize good fortune, balance, and harmony. It stands gracefully on a classic raised pedestal. The extensive gold leaf detailing remains remarkably bright, crisp and well-preserved with minimal age-related rubbing.
