Description
This miniature bronze ring features a slender hoop and an angular bezel framed by repeated triangular impressions. The deeply incised central sign is interpreted as the Hebrew letter Zayin (ז), creating a distinctive epigraphic focus. Its small dimensions suggest use on a slender finger, while brown and green surface tones highlight the engraved decoration.
In Jewish symbolic interpretation, Zayin carries the numerical value seven and is associated with Shabbat, the seventh day of the week. This connection places the proposed letter reading within a tradition of sacred time, rest and spiritual renewal; it offers a symbolic context for the ring rather than establishing a ceremonial function.
Within this reading, the small engraved sign evokes the arrival of Shabbat: everyday labour pauses, the household gathers, and kedushah, holiness, gives the seventh day its distinctive character.
