An Elegant Kyoto Tea Bowl by Hashimoto Jōgaku – The Brilliant Colors of Autumn This beautifully decorated Japanese matcha tea bowl (chawan) is signed Hashimoto Jōgaku (橋本城岳), a name associated with the traditional Kyoto pottery kiln specializing in Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware. The bowl features a warm ivory-colored glaze adorned with a magnificent arrangement of autumn maple leaves (momiji). Brilliant gold leaves overlap with deep red, brown and olive-green foliage, creating a rich composition reminiscent of a Japanese garden at the height of autumn. Fine gold detailing highlights the veins and outlines of the leaves, while touches of green and blue near the base provide a striking contrast. A delicate continuation of the maple design appears inside the rim, allowing the seasonal decoration to be enjoyed while drinking matcha.
