Antique Silver-Plated Round Serving Tray – Harts The Silversmiths – Sheffield, England – Pierced Gallery Rim – Engraved Rococo Decoration

An elegant and beautifully decorated silver-plated round serving tray, manufactured by Harts The Silversmiths, Sheffield, England, a city internationally renowned for its long tradition of fine silverware and silver-plated tableware.

The underside bears the manufacturer's mark “HARTS THE SILVERSMITHS – SHEFFIELD ENGLAND”, together with the Harts signature.

Design and decoration

This attractive English tray features an elaborate engraved decoration of scrolling acanthus leaves, floral motifs, elegant C-scrolls and finely detailed crosshatched backgrounds, inspired by the ornamental traditions of the Rococo and Victorian periods.

The central surface is beautifully polished, creating an appealing contrast with the richly engraved decoration surrounding it.

A particularly attractive feature is the raised, openwork gallery rim, decorated with a continuous series of finely pierced vertical openings, bordered by small rectangular perforations and elegant moulded edges.

This gallery provides both a decorative and practical function, helping to prevent glasses, bottles or other objects from sliding off the tray.

The combination of the intricate engraving, reflective silver-plated surface and architectural gallery rim gives this piece a refined and timeless English character.

HARTS were Sheffield silversmiths working during the late 19th and early 20th century, producing high-quality silver-plated wares for both domestic and hospitality use.

Originally intended as an elegant serving tray for drinks, glasses, decanters or afternoon tea, this piece is equally suitable for contemporary interiors.

It can be used as:
A serving tray for cocktails, whisky or champagne glasses.
An elegant presentation tray for a tea or coffee service.
A decorative centrepiece displaying crystal decanters or silverware.
A sophisticated accessory for a home bar, sideboard or dining table.

Its traditional English design combines beautifully with classic, Victorian-inspired, country-house and eclectic interiors.
