Recording King RKOH-05 – 5-String Open-Back Banjo

The Recording King RKOH-05 is a traditional 5-string open-back banjo designed for old-time, folk, and clawhammer playing styles. With its lightweight construction and warm, woody tone, this banjo delivers an authentic, vintage-inspired sound that fits both traditional repertoire and modern acoustic settings.

General description

The RKOH-05 features a classic open-back design that emphasizes warmth, clarity, and natural resonance. This construction produces a focused, open tone with a strong midrange and controlled low end—ideal for clawhammer and old-time techniques where rhythmic clarity and note separation are essential.

As a 5-string banjo, it includes a short drone string that gives traditional banjo music its distinctive rhythmic pulse. The comfortable neck profile and smooth fingerboard support fluid left-hand movement and accurate fretting. Traditional hardware and understated styling reflect Recording King’s vintage approach, combined with dependable modern build quality.

Playing experience

The Recording King RKOH-05 offers a responsive and comfortable playing experience, with a tone that projects clearly without excessive volume. The open-back design keeps the banjo lightweight and well-balanced, making it suitable for long playing sessions. It responds naturally to dynamics, whether played gently or with rhythmic drive.
