Lampsakos stood on the Asian shore of the Hellespont, along the sea route linking the Aegean with the Black Sea. Renowned for its wine, the city combined agricultural wealth with a strategic maritime position. Its early coinage belongs to this turbulent period of Greek resistance and imperial reconquest.
