Longines - Conquest V.H.P. - χωρίς τιμή ασφαλείας - Άνδρες - 1980-1989

Longines Conquest V.H.P. Quartz in titanium, 1980s, running – dark grey dial with gold-coloured markers and hands, date at 3 o'clock, round case with integrated two-tone titanium bracelet, new battery fitted. PLEASE NOTE: the gold-coloured hands have discoloured. The hour and minute hands carry a widespread brown tarnish and mottling across their gold finish, and the seconds hand has dulled; this is ageing of the hand finish and cannot be polished away. There is also a faint circular stain on the dial between the centre and the 20-minute marker, towards 4 to 5 o'clock, visible at certain angles; brown rust-like deposits at the hinge of the clasp; and small pale green deposits on a few of the exposed pin heads along the sides of the bracelet. All of these are described under Condition below and are the reason this watch is graded Good rather than Very good. The case is round – the word "square" in the seller's own title refers to the shape of the clasp cover, not the case. The caseback carries no reference number; it is engraved with the Conquest name, TITANIUM, SWISS MADE, TIME ZONE and MODELE DEPOSE around the Longines medallion, with the serial number struck shallowly on the case body, so no reference is quoted in the listing fields. The caseback carries no water-resistance marking and the gaskets have never been tested or replaced, so the watch is not water resistant and must be kept away from water. The crystal is not marked as sapphire anywhere, so no claim is made about its material. The battery was replaced by the seller shortly before listing. The TIME ZONE marking refers to the independently adjustable hour hand of this calibre; that function has not been tested. The case diameter has been measured with a caliper at 33 mm. Overview A Longines Conquest V.H.P. – Very High Precision – quartz from the late 1980s, in a lightweight titanium case with the alternating sandblasted tabs and polished facets on the bezel that mark the model, and on its integrated bracelet of round titanium tubes with a gold-coloured centre row. The dial is a dark, even grey – measured off the photographs at a saturation of about 4 per cent and a brightness of about 38 per cent, a true anthracite rather than black or silver – carrying LONGINES in white with the gold-coloured applied winged hourglass, and Ti and V.H.P. Quartz in white script above 6. Eight gold-coloured applied batons mark the hours, each tipped with a white luminous dot, with triple-dot markers – two gold, one white – at 12, 3, 6 and 9, and a white railway minute track with numerals runs round the edge. The gold-coloured dauphine hands carry white luminous lines, and the date sits at 3 o'clock in a gold-coloured frame, white on black. A thin gold-coloured ring lines the inner edge. The bracelet closes on a titanium fold-over clasp with the gold-coloured winged hourglass on its cover. Specifications - Brand: Longines - Model: Conquest V.H.P. – Conquest is engraved on the caseback, V.H.P. Quartz and Ti are printed on the dial - Reference number: none engraved – see the note above - Serial number: eight digits beginning 2422, the remainder struck too shallowly to read with certainty, on the case body beside the caseback - Movement: quartz, V.H.P. (Very High Precision), three hands with date and an independently adjustable hour hand per the TIME ZONE marking. The caseback is solid, so the movement cannot be seen and the calibre cannot be stated. New battery fitted by the seller. - Date of manufacture: late 1980s, estimated from the serial number and the TIME ZONE marking of the first Conquest V.H.P. generation; the exact year cannot be established from the watch - Case: round, titanium, with integrated lugs and a fixed bezel of twelve sandblasted tabs alternating with polished facets. Plain domed crown at 3 o'clock, unsigned as far as can be seen in the photographs. Solid snap-on caseback with the Longines medallion engraved E.O.L. / Conquest / TITANIUM / SWISS MADE / TIME ZONE / MODELE DEPOSE with two small marks, and the serial number on the case body. No sticker. No precious metal anywhere; the gold colour is a surface finish on the markers, hands, date frame and bracelet centre row. - Case diameter: 33 mm excluding the crown - Crystal: flat, with no scratches, chips or cracks found. The material is not marked anywhere – see the note above. - Dial: dark grey, anthracite, with an even satin finish. Measured off the photographs with the white background in the same frame used to correct the white balance, the dial reads at a saturation of 3 to 4 per cent and a brightness of 37 to 38 per cent across three sample points, so a neutral dark grey. - Dial printing and fittings: LONGINES in white with the gold-coloured applied winged hourglass below 12; Ti and V.H.P. Quartz in white script above 6; the dial code 174-SWISS-4961 at the foot of the dial; a white railway minute track with numerals at the five-minute positions - Markers: eight gold-coloured applied batons with a white luminous dot at the tip, and triple-dot markers of two gold and one white at 12, 3, 6 and 9 - Hands: gold-coloured dauphine hour and minute hands with white luminous lines, and a slim gold-coloured seconds hand. Tarnished – see the note above. Whether the luminous material still glows has not been tested. - Date: window at 3 o'clock with a gold-coloured frame, white numerals on a black disc - Water resistance: no marking on the watch, and the gaskets have not been tested – see the note above - Bracelet: original Longines titanium bracelet, integrated with the case, made of round tube links with a gold-coloured centre row, the link pins visible as heads along the sides. Titanium fold-over clasp with the gold-coloured winged hourglass applied to the cover and the same sandblasted tab decoration as the bezel; three adjustment holes. No other maker's name appears anywhere on it. No spare links are included. - Lug width: not applicable – the bracelet is integrated with the case and attaches directly to it, so a standard strap cannot be fitted - Wearable size: as linked the bracelet fits a wrist of approximately 180 mm, taken from the graduated cone in the photographs; the three adjustment holes allow it to be shortened in small steps. No spare links are included, so it cannot be lengthened beyond this. - Weight: 46.33 g - Included accessories: none Condition Good, with visible signs of wear. - Hands: the gold finish of the hour and minute hands is tarnished brown and mottled across much of its surface, and the seconds hand has dulled, as described in the note above. The hands are straight and correctly seated. This is the most visible fault on the watch. - Dial: a faint circular stain between the centre and the 20-minute marker towards 4 to 5 o'clock, about a sixth of the dial in diameter, visible at certain angles. Otherwise no crazing, no other stains and no lifting of the markers were found, and the printing is sharp. - Markers: all present, firmly seated and free of corrosion. The luminous dots are complete. - Crystal: no scratches, chips or cracks were found. - Case and bezel: scuffing on the sandblasted tabs and light scratches on the polished facets, as titanium picks up readily. No dents and no distortion. - Caseback: light marks from normal wear. The medallion engraving is clear; the serial number is shallow. - Crown: intact and correctly seated, with no deformation. - Corrosion and deposits: brown rust-like deposits at the hinge of the clasp on both sides of the hinge pin, and small pale green deposits on a few of the exposed pin heads along the sides of the bracelet, as described in the note above. None was found on the case or the dial side. - Bracelet and clasp: no broken or missing links. Light scuffing on the tubes and the clasp cover; the gold-coloured centre row keeps its finish. The clasp closes and latches correctly. Play in the clasp could not be assessed from the photographs. Working order The watch is running. The seconds hand was checked against the timestamps of two pairs of photographs: over an interval of 8.1 seconds it advanced by about 7 to 8 seconds, and over an interval of 3.8 seconds by about 3 seconds, so it is keeping time in one-second steps. The date is displayed correctly. The battery was replaced by the seller shortly before listing. The independently adjustable hour hand, the date changeover, the timekeeping accuracy and the water resistance have not been tested with equipment. Please consider this a used quartz watch of the 1980s. Included Watch and bracelet only. No box, papers, warranty card, spare links or other accessories. Shipping Ships from Japan. Registered and insured shipping, mainly via DHL or FedEx. Import duties or taxes may apply depending on the buyer's country. These charges must be paid by the buyer. No weekend shipping as courier pickups are unavailable on Saturdays and Sundays. Please feel free to contact me with any questions before placing your bid.
