Fine female statue of the Ovimbundu, also known as Southern Mbundu, are a Bantu-ethnic group living on the Ble-plateau in center Angola and in the coaststrip west of these highlands. Most of the Ovimbundu are Christian.
Ex collection of the late Walter Steinberg, UK/USA. He was a wellknown collector of coins and African Art. He passed away in the year 2008.
This type of figures, called Efuko or Cisola, are used during initiation rites of young girls, also for fertility and even for fortune-telling.
Very rare is the beautiful hat that she is wearing.
The face has a very long nose.
Fine glossy patina caused by age and heavy use.
Material: wood, metal, beads, raffia and textile.
