Item Description: This is a superb Tamba-yaki (Tanba ware) handled flower vase by the renowned ceramic artist Ichino Shinsui II (二代 市野信水). Created with the distinctive red clay native to Tamba in Hyogo Prefecture, the vase is wheel-thrown and topped with a robust, hand-formed handle. Its body features bold spatula carvings that form a natural, dynamic landscape-like texture, capturing the rustic elegance that defines traditional Japanese ceramics. The surface is partially covered in natural ash glaze, resulting in varied coloration that includes earthy browns, grays, and hints of green and blue. This ash glaze finish sets it apart from other kilns such as Bizen or Shigaraki, offering a uniquely subdued yet rich aesthetic. This flower vessel comes in unused, excellent condition and includes the original signed wooden box (tomobako) inscribed by the artist. The artist’s signature can also be found impressed on the base of the vase.
