Bezerédi Gyula studied sculpture with Károly Alexy and then at the Academy in Vienna. He achieved his first success by winning the Cellini sculpture competition (Prague, Műcsarnok). He lived and created in Budapest (1882–1925). Bezerédi's monumental sculptural works can be seen in Budapest, in the Városliget and Népliget. He created Hungary's first statue of George Washington. His life's work was characterized by genre sculptures with a special sense of humor (Unpleasant Guests, 1886) and excellent portraits.
