Roman Carnelian Intaglio – Cupid with Bow and Quiver – 1st–2nd Century AD
Delicate Roman carnelian intaglio depicting Cupid (Eros) standing, holding a bow in one hand and a quiver slung over his shoulder — a classic representation of the god of love and desire.
This finely carved gemstone dates to the 1st–2nd century AD, and would have originally been set into a ring or personal seal, worn as both adornment and amulet. The figure is skillfully engraved with attention to anatomical detail and balance, typical of Roman craftsmanship during the Imperial period.
The stone has a beautiful reddish-orange hue, typical of carnelian, and remains in very good condition with minor signs of age and wear.
Dimensions: approx. 20 mm x 15 mm
Material: Carnelian
Date: Roman Empire, 1st–2nd century AD
Provenance: From a private European collection, acquired before 2000.
A lovely and symbolic piece of ancient Roman glyptic art, representing both the mythological and emotional world of the Roman elite.
