Description Unique signed Art Nouveau / early Art Deco jewelry box by Lodewijk Rombauts, the renowned wood sculptor from Mechelen (Belgium), dated 1937. Entirely hand-carved from solid wood, the lid displays a refined floral relief typical of the Mechelen Art Nouveau tradition, with stylised leaves, tendrils and blossoms inspired by nature — characteristic of Belgian craftsmanship from the early 20th century. The lower edge carries a delicately carved decorative motif, while the rounded lid already shows the influence of Art Deco geometry and smooth modern lines. The interior is lined with orange velvet and divided into compartments for jewellery or small personal objects. This piece comes from the family estate of the artist and bears Rombauts’ authentic engraved signature on the underside (see detailed photo). A rare example of Belgian Art Nouveau transitioning into Art Deco — elegant, finely executed and historically important. --- Condition Good overall condition consistent with age.
