Preface by Tom of Finland with appreciation by Durk Dehner and Hudson. This book covers Tom of Finland's work from 1946 to 1987, depicting page by page throughout his iconic and impeccable graphite drawings of macho leathermen, bikers, cowboys, cops, lumberjacks, hardhats, soldiers and sailors, all in all their exaggerated erotic glory.
A volume showcasing the work of gay-artist Tom of Finland. Illustrated throughtout with full-page pencil drawings.
Touko Valio Laaksonen (8 May 1920 – 7 November 1991), best known by his pseudonym Tom of Finland, was a Finnish artist known for his stylized highly masculinized homoerotic fetish art, and for his influence on late twentieth century gay culture. He has been called the "most influential creator of gay pornographic images" by cultural historian Joseph W. Slade. Over the course of four decades, he produced some 3500 illustrations, mostly featuring men with exaggerated primary and secondary sex traits, wearing tight or partially removed clothing. In this edition: Tom of Finland's erotic drawings have been a gay legend for 40 years. His macho men created a look for gay men, proud of their bodies and their sexuality. His work is characterized by a combination of sly humour and graphic detail.
