Item Description :
This vivid oil painting titled "Seiryūgawa Autumn Scenery – Kyoto" (清滝川秋色・京都) by Japanese painter Toshio Samada (佐間田敏夫) captures the vibrant beauty of Kyoto’s famous Seiryūgawa River during the autumn season. The work portrays a serene landscape with fiery red and golden foliage lining the riverbanks, contrasted against the cool blue of the gently flowing stream. Samada’s dynamic brushwork and saturated color palette bring the crisp autumn air and the quiet poetry of nature to life.
The artist’s signature is visible at the lower right, and the back of the canvas is inscribed with the title and artist’s name. This piece was handled by Ichimai no E (一枚の絵), a notable Japanese art distributor, and is recognized as an original work.

Toshio Samada (佐間田敏夫)
Born in 1923 in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. After graduating from Osaka School of Foreign Languages, Samada studied at the Imperial Art School. He traveled extensively across Japan, Europe, North America, China, and the former Soviet Union, drawing inspiration for his landscape paintings. Over his lifetime, he held numerous solo exhibitions and contributed a commemorative painting to the Okinawa Peace Memorial Hall.
A recipient of the Special Selection award at the Sōjukai Exhibition, Samada served as a board member of the Sōjukai group and was also a member of the Meisaikai. He passed away in February 2014 at the age of 90.
