Raku Ware - Waraku / Kuroraku - Chawan - Κούπα τσαγιού / Ξύλινο κουτί αποθήκευσης / Τελετή τσαγιού - Αγγειοπλαστική - Sado / Matcha

Raku Ware Waraku refers to a lineage of potters in Kyoto specializing in Raku ware (Raku-yaki), a type of low-fired, hand-molded pottery historically associated with the Japanese tea ceremony (Chanoyu). Waraku Kiln was founded on the bisque pottery that was started by Tanzakuya Shichizaemon, the owner of the Gion teahouse "Tanzakuro" at the end of the Edo period. From the second generation Shichibei onwards, he was known as "Tanzakuya of Raku ware" and dedicated himself to Raku ware. In 1918, he was bestowed the name "Waraku" by the then Marshal Togo Heihachiro, and the shop name was changed. Raku ware is pottery that originated in the late Momoyama period as utensils for the tea ceremony. It was created by tile craftsman Chojiro as a tea bowl for tea master Sen no Rikyu to embody the wabi-cha style of tea. It is said to have originated as "Juraku ware," fired using clay (Juraku clay) dug up during the construction of Jurakudai. Developed as utensils for the tea ceremony, Raku ware is pottery with a strong spiritual essence. It minimizes decoration and relies solely on molding and glazing. Furthermore, the idea of each piece being unique is firmly rooted, and many aspects of the production process make it impossible to mass-produce. At tea ceremonies, Raku ware tea bowls are treated as special objects and have long been treasured. Black Raku and red Raku are representative examples, and they are characterized by a shorter firing time than standard pottery. Condition* In good condition.
