A cloisonné vase with a pair of swans. The artist is Yoshida Takeshi 吉田武. It is painted on a green base. Swans are said to have a very strong bond between husband and wife, and to stay together for life. This vase was made to represent a couple who will stay in love forever, just like a pair of swans. It is also considered a symbol of patience, eternal love, and good fortune. ・A strong bond between husband and wife that will stay together for life ・Symbolizes patience and eternal love ・Symbol of good fortune Cloisonné is a type of decorative work in which enamel, glass, or gemstones are separated by strips of flattened wire placed edgeways on a metal backing. It is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects. Cloisonné enamel objects are worked on with enamel powder made into a paste, which then is painted into the cloisons (compartments) of the design. The piece is fired in a kiln, allowing the enamel to melt and harden into a smooth, glossy surface. The name "cloisonné" comes from the French word "cloison," meaning "partition" or "compartment," referring to the cells created by the wire. Yoshida Takeshi is a cloisonné craftsman born in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture in 1943. His achievements include receiving the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare Contemporary Master Craftsman Award and the Yellow Ribbon Medal.
