Sparkling Chalcopyrite intergrown with Quartz crystals from Cavnic Mine, Cavnic, Maramureș County, Romania.
Sparkling, golden chalcopyrite is richly intergrown with small quartz crystals from the classic Cavnic Mine, Cavnic, Maramureș County, Romania. The bright metallic chalcopyrite contrasts beautifully with the small quartz points, giving the piece a vivid, three-dimensional, “jewelled” look under light.
Sharp, golden chalcopyrite crystals are scattered across the quartz, adding metallic sparkle and colour contrast that enhances the overall aesthetics. A fine Romanian classic, ideal for collectors who appreciate unusual quartz growth habits and well-known historic localities.
The Cavnic Mine is celebrated for producing world-class sulfide mineral combinations, and this piece exemplifies the locale’s quality with excellent crystal form and visual appeal. Such combinations of pyrite and chalcopyrite, occasionally with iridescent surfaces, are highly sought after by collectors for their vivid aesthetics and mineralogical significance.
The Cavnic Mine in Maramureș County, Romania has not been operating since 2008, when all mines in the area were closed, the adits were sealed, and external infrastructure was demolished or is in the process of demolition.
